Innsbruck is a city with 30,000 students; it is essential to arrange housing well in advance! Please see our brochure for important information about housing.

After your university has nominated you for an Erasmus+ study period at PHT, you will receive an email containing a link to the online application form. Applications must be submitted no later than March 15 for the winter semester and October 15 for the spring semester. After successfully completing the application process, you will receive a letter confirming your acceptance at PHT or a letter of rejection. Since we can only accept a limited number of exchange students, our selection process is based on several criteria, including the letter of motivation and the interview.

Students must be present for the entire term; late arrivals or early departures are not permitted. The academic calendar is available at:

We recommend arriving a few days before the official start of the semester or Welcome Day, so you’ll have time to settle in. Please be sure to arrange your flight dates, housing, and (if applicable) visas, etc., accordingly.

Student housing is usually rented by the full month, but sometimes it is possible to move in earlier. You will need to submit a request to your dorm. Otherwise, students stay at a youth hostel for the first few days until their housing becomes available.

For the enrollment process, our administration requires proof of adequate health insurance from all incoming students.

Students from EU/EEA countries: To be covered by health insurance in Austria, all citizens of EU/EEA countries must obtain an EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card). The EHIC card will give you access to the same services available to Austrian policyholders. This applies to treatments that are medically necessary during your stay in Austria; routine medical checkups or screenings are not covered.

International Students: Students who do not have public health insurance are advised to obtain a student self-insurance policy.

Please use the forms or database provided by your institution and fill in all required information. If your home university does not provide a template, please contact the incoming student coordinator at PHT for clarification and guidance.

The Austrian Students’ Union (Österreichische Hochschülerschaft, or ÖH for short) is the general representative body for students in Austria and serves as the students’ government under federal law. The ÖH is a member of the European Students’ Union. Membership in the students’ union is mandatory for all university students in Austria, including international and exchange students.

Most visitors prefer to fly to Munich Airport, as more airlines and lower fares are available for this airport. More information is available at the International Office / Getting Here (German/English).

Please check regularly for the latest entry and residence requirements in Austria: German / English

Exchange students from non-EU/EEA countries may need a visa to enter Austria. This also applies if they have a residence permit from another European country. Please note that incoming students are responsible for their own visa application; the International Office is not involved in the application process. Since processing a visa application can take several weeks or even months, we strongly advise you to submit your application as early as possible.
